Geoff joined the staff team at Philpott Church back in August of 2012 and even though he was raised in Hamilton, he still thinks of himself as a “newcomer.” This is due, in part, to having not lived in Hamilton since 1981 but also due to his having lived in Quebec city, Abbotsford, BC and points in between while pursuing his education (forestry, bible school, French highschool teaching degree).
In a nutshell, he sees his ministry at Philpott to be building bridges between the congregants of the Church and our neighbors who live, work and study in our downtown location. He enjoys learning and encouraging other Anglophones to learn how to greet “newcomers” to Canada in their mother tongues as a way to extend a hand of peace and hospitality.
His varied interests: music, sailing, cycling and International food tasting make great points of contact with the Nations who find their way to Hamilton.
Geoff, and his wife Esther (nurse with VON Hamilton) raised their 3 children (now at University or finished) in Senegal, West Africa and often lean on those experiences to help them relate to Newcomers to Canada, especially those of La Francophonie of Africa.
