What is "The Break"?
We are a community of rest, a place to take a break from life without any judgment or fear. Jesus made it clear that those who come to him would experience rest and we want to follow his example by making sure any student who enters our space can experience a space of support, encouragement, and grace. Like a port in a storm, The Break acts as a haven for those who need it.
Then Jesus said, “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you, because I am humble and gentle at heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy to bear, and the burden I give you is light.” – Matthew 11:28-30
We are a community of challenge, inspired by the breaking of a wave that is necessary to push forward whatever is caught in its path. Like a surfer who needs the wave to break to propel them to their goal, we want to inspire and challenge our students to move forward in all areas of their life: spiritually, mentally, physically, academically, and socially. The breaking wave can be painful but necessary, similar to how God wants to build us up in our faith and our lives, even when it is difficult.
Dear brothers and sisters, when troubles of any kind come your way, consider it an opportunity for great joy. For you know that when your faith is tested, your endurance has a chance to grow. So let it grow, for when your endurance is fully developed, you will be perfect and complete, needing nothing – James 1:2-4
We are a community of growth, recognizing that to follow Jesus means being broken ourselves in the same way that he was broken for our sakes by sacrificing himself on the cross so that we might have life. We want to help break addictions, patterns of sin, strongholds, and all the things that keep us from experiencing a radical and counter-cultural life of joy and peace through Jesus.
The sacrifice you desire is a broken spirit. You will not reject a broken and repentant heart, O God. - Psalm 51:17
